Thought Field Therapy
By Hal S. Blatman, MD and Judy Schwartz, PhD.

Thought Field Therapy, also known as TFT, is an innovative and remarkable therapy employed as part of psychotherapy for psychological problems developed out of extensive knowledge of the body's energy system.

TFT is based on the idea that distressing experiences create distressed energy patterns, called perturbations, within the mind-body energy system, known as meridians. The perturbations (distressed emotions) are the target of TFT. Once the person learns where the perturbations are located in the meridians they are taught how to release the distress. The release aids in the restoration of emotional balance and an enhanced ability to cope.

TFT was developed about 20 years ago by Dr. Roger J. Callahan, Ph.D. Dr. Callahan discovered that by moving the body's energy in specific ways, distressing emotions could by eliminated with the chemical and cognitive corollaries of a distressed emotion no longer functioning in the pre-therapy manner. While the emotional effects of a trauma or other distress may be resolved, the memory of the event remains. For example, when a parent tragically loses a child, the memory of the loss remains; however, through TFT, the emotional pain may be changed and the parent may be stronger in the face of the loss.

In the TFT procedure, the person tunes their awareness to the distressing problem, such as a traumatic memory or fear. Once attuned to the identified perturbation, then diagnosis identifies the specific meridians and the specific order of therapy. At that time the person is instructed in the release of the perturbation. The therapy is usually quick and thorough.

TFT has been helpful for a wide array of psychological problems including anxiety, fear, phobias, worries, trauma, stress reduction, guilt, depression, addictive urges, hair pulling, sleep problems, disturbing memories, chronic pain, headaches, guilt, shame, jealousy, food cravings, and even skill or performance enhancement and relaxation. If you are suffering from any of the above or similar problems, Thought Field Therapy may be helpful to you.
